Course Details

Time: Mar 25 - April 07, 2024 (2 weeks)
Venue: Lá Library, Quynh Luu, Nho Quan, Ninh Binh

Languages: Vietnamese and English


This program is for those interested in learning and practicing Permaculture, and also love to experience sustainable living style in our community at Lá Library.


During 2 weeks, interns will learn theories and then practice designing a sustainable agricultural system and gardening techniques (including food forest). Especially, interns will learn to collect information from nature observation, and know how to use those information in their design.


COURSE OUTLINES

*The whole course will be very hands-on and focus on topics below:


1. Introduction to Permaculture

2. Design Principles

3. Soil science and soil improving methods

4. Water and its life cycle

5. Catch and Store Energy

6. Gardening techniques (including vegetable garden and food forest)


Note for the design practice section: if you already have a piece of land, we will send you some guidelines for data collection to prepare for this section; otherwise, we will send you a case study with given data.


ACTIVITIES

▸ Interns will follow daily work schedule of the team with 5 - 6 hours/day (we will go for more details on the orientation day). We're off on Monday.


▸ At the end of the course, interns must present their complete system design with sustainable development strategies.


▸ Technique discussions will be held regularly during the program.


LIVING SITUATION

▸ Accommodation: we provide simple accommodation in our traditional wooden stilt house as a dorm with mattress, futon and mosquito net per pax. Shared toilets and shower rooms are next to the dorm with free organic toiletries set (*attention: all chemicals are banned).


▸ Meals: 3 meals per day will be provided. Everyone will together prepare meals with ingredients from our garden and the local market.


TUITION FEE

We ask for a contribution of 4,000,000VND (~ $167) per pax for your 2-week staying on our campus. The fee includes all food during the course, accommodation (with organic toiletries set), materials and instruction.


All proceeds go towards supporting us in our researches on different sustainable systems/ solutions, and in growing the local sustainable living community.
