Time: Mar 02 - 03, 2024 (2 day 1 night)
Venue: Lá Library, Quynh Luu, Nho Quan, Ninh Binh
Making your own colour palette from natural pigments is a way to reconnect with Nature, to help limit the amount of chemicals in your art practice, and is also a unique way to capture and memorize the landscapes you have been to.
In this workshop, together we will forage earthen and plant-based pigments, then learn how to use natural binders to make our own locally-sourced colour palette to draw and paint - guided by artist Chi L. Nguyễn. Besides, Chi will share her research and experiments with natural pigments on different materials that she has done during her residency at Lá.
WORKSHOP OUTLINES
During this 2-day workshop, we will forage and collect natural materials for pigment-making from local surroundings (garden, forest,...) at Lá Library and practice on the following topics:
Preparing and processing pigments from soil, rocks and plants
Making natural colour binders

Creating your own drawing with your palette.
In addition, Chi will share the results of her experiments on different materials (watercolour papers, dó papers, fabric,...) from her winter residency at Lá Library.
